Through sounds, pictures & words produce a blog presentation which captures the spirit of the times which gave rise to Ragtime & The Blues.

In groups of 5 research one of the following. 1 person to be the editor/narrator:

• Music file & music & musicians of the time
A sound file demonstrating the 2 genres
Types of music and stylistic features (how do we know by listening it’s ragtime or blues)
Main composers/musicians of the time
What influences led to ragtime & Blues music

• Transportation and immigration
How did people get around
What inventions in transport happened during your decade
From which countries did most of the immigrants come & what was their contribution to American life
Where did most immigrants settle & what industries did they go into

• Work opportunities and conditions
Were jobs easy to come by
What pay could the average American expect
What sort of working conditions did people (especially negros) work under

• Political & Economic factors
Who were the main political leaders of the time
How rich/poor was the country and why
Any political decisions that changed America significantly
